Trust is good, control is better is a well known proverb attributed to W. I. Lenin. Trust is also used in IT Security to measure teh trustworthiness of a computer, communications channel or end user. However, IT security fails to reflect what trust actually is.

This talk focusses on the psychological and sociological dimensions of trust and discusses what trust in the context of IT security actually is.

I will also discuss the concepts of complexity and security with a special focus on the measurability of all concepts.

The final point for discussion will be the psychology of security and who actually has agency in the system of security.
